Felicia Pruitt Brown

Iā€˜m a graphic/web designer based in Minneapolis. I specialize in creating unique non-profit campaigns and justice-oriented visual branding and artwork. I have been an artist all my life, primarily drawing, but also experimenting with a variety of mediums. When I discovered graphic design, it gave purpose to things I was making. I have been able to transform that creative energy into websites, printed items, and illustrations for campaigns, as well as interactive media to amplify the messages online of the organizations I partner with. Stylistically my influences come from all over. I draw inspiration from the cleanness of Swiss or international-style graphic design from the first half of the 20th Century, and nothing beats the 1990s hip hop aesthetic for textures and patterns. I love to bring imaginative illustrations and bright bold colors and unexpected prints into my work. My recent personal work was inspired in the wake of the George Floyd uprising. I felt powerless as my neighborhood was gripped with fear. I looked for a way I could use my art to spread a message of black liberation, a possible future, where black communities could recover and rebuild. Through merchandise sales, I was able to donate to support several individuals in the community; this is an extension of the mission of most of my body of work. Art for a greater cause can be transformational.
